Amazing Finger-Saving Technology
Over 30,000 table saw injuries occur every year. (1) That’s an average of 82 injuries every day! Ten percent of those injuries are amputations. (2) Fingers and hands are the most frequently injured body part.
Inventor Dr. Steve Gass developed technology that stops a saw blade and prevents serious injury. He founded SawStop in 2000, and today the company sells the highest quality table saws on the market.
The combination of safety, unparalleled design and craftsmanship has made SawStop the #1 cabinet saw in North America.
How SawStop Works
This seven second video captures the SawStop technology perfectly:
1. Monitor & Detect
- The blade carries a small electrical signal.
- When skin contacts the blade, the signal changes because the human body is conductive.
- The change to the signal activates the safety system.
2. Brake Activation
- An aluminum brake springs into the spinning blade, stopping it in less than 5 milliseconds!
- The blade’s angular momentum drives it beneath the table, removing the risk of subsequent contact.
- Power to the motor is shut off.
3. Reset
- Resetting the saw yourself is easy. Simply replace the blade and affordable brake cartridge and your saw is operational.
- The entire reset process takes less than five minutes.
