Fireplaces

Does Von Tobel install or service fireplaces?

Our fireplace experts can share information for local installers.

What are the differences between a vent free fireplace, a wood burning fireplace, and a direct vent fireplace?

Wood burning fireplaces are a traditional option that require a steel chimney system with a damper. They tend to be an inefficient source of heat compared to modern options.

Vent free fireplaces are the most economical option and are 99% energy efficient. They are a great solution in older homes that do not have an existing vent, and they can be placed anywhere a gas line can be run. Many of our customers have swapped out their wood burning fireplaces with a vent free product and have been thrilled with the improved heating efficiency.

Direct vent fireplaces have an exhaust chimney system, but are sealed with tempered or ceramic glass to improve efficiency. They offer a realistic flame look and operate at 60 – 70% efficiency. Direct vent fireplaces are ideal for new construction.

Are vent free log sets safe to burn?

Yes, they are. Logs used in vent free gas fireplaces are designed to produce a very hot flame that results in nearly complete fuel combustion, decreasing the levels of carbon monoxide and soot that are produced by other gas logs.

Does Von Tobel carry parts for fireplaces?

We do not stock fireplace parts, but may be able to place a special order for you.

Can you order parts for older gas fireplace models?

Often times, yes we can! Call or stop in to talk with one of our fireplace experts to learn what information we will need from you in order to search for the part.
